Horsepower Rankings: California

1. Kyle Busch  For an extended edition of Athlon’s Horsepower Rankings, please check inside of Kyle Busch’s left ear.

2. Tony Stewart
Either win one soon or leave the Home Depot hat on at all times. Please.

3. Jimmie Johnson
Daytona behind them, Team Lowe’s set to run top 5 at every intermediate in sight.

4. Jeff Gordon
He’s got it all: A beautiful family, a successful career, lucrative endorsements and a third-place finish with an engine that was blown all to hell. Some guys have all the luck.

5. Carl Edwards  Something tells me Edwards would have been flipping in SoCal whether the race finished at 5:00 pm, 11:00 pm or 3:00 am.

6. Matt Kenseth  Oh, how we wish we could have seen what Kenseth had for ‘em at Daytona. Guarantee he’d be a lot higher on this list.

7. Ryan Newman  So can Purdue have some of that 10th-place money?

8. Kurt Busch  Thanks to Sam Hornish Jr., Kurt was well behind the Casey Mears fiasco. That’s karma for ya, Mr. Penske.

9. Kasey Kahne  What, no Kasey Kahne/Paris Hilton sightings in California this year? Guess the new good-girl phase hasn’t run its course yet. Come to think of it, what happened to Kasey's Allstate stalkers?

10. Dale Earnhardt Jr.  Wonder what the tone in the 5/88 shop is after Mears — directly or otherwise — cost Junior big time the first two weeks.

11. Brian Vickers
Lost in all the Gibbs fanfare, no one has taken note of Team Red Hair’s 11th- and 12th-place runs.

12. Jeff Burton
Consistency is a blessing and a curse. Especially when you finish around 12th every week.

13. Kevin Harvick
An eighth on a big intermediate is a very encouraging sign for this bunch. Now don’t disappear for the next six races, guys.

14. Martin Truex Jr.
The same can be said for Truex and his sixth-place run at California. And hey, the engine held up in all four DEI cars!

15. Greg Biffle
A winner Sunday, out to lunch Monday.
