ATHLON SPORTS DRAFT PROJECTION
DeSean Jackson
Position: WR
School: California

Ht: 6'0"
Wt: 180
DOB: 12/1/1986
HS: Long Beach Poly
HOME: Los Angeles, CA
DeSean Jackson is undoubtedly the top return specialist and arguably the top pass-catcher in this year's draft class.

While the former Berkeley standout does not have the size of Texas' Limas Sweed, Michigan State's Devin Thomas, Oklahoma's Malcolm Kelly or Indiana's James Hardy, he does have much better open field moves and breakaway speed.

Jackson is arguably a better return man and more polished receiver than Ohio State's Ted Ginn Jr. was last year, when Ginn caused a near-riot in Miami after going No. 9 overall.

It takes most wide receivers several years to make a significant impact. But Jackson would provide an instant spark in the field position return game as well as a situational deep ball and end-around threat.

Also, Jackson has been working out with receiving icon Jerry Rice during the months leading up to the draft. The G.O.A.T. has given his seal of approval — comparing Jackson to Carolina's Steve Smith — which has to mean something.
