1 of 6No. 2 Miami overcame a 16-7 fourth-quarter deficit to beat No. 1 Florida State 17-16 when Gerry Thomas, who had made three field goals on the day, missed a 34-yard field goal with 22 seconds left. The game was labeled 'Wide Right' and propelled the Hurricanes to their fourth national championship.

4. Miami vs Nebraska, January 3, 2002
2 of 6Stacked with future NFL stars Andre Johnson, Clinton Portis, Ed Reed, Vince Wilfork and a host of others, undefeated Miami waxed Nebraska 37-14 in the BCS national championship game, and it wasn't nearly that close. The Canes led 34-0 in the second quarter and cruised to their fifth national championship under rookie head coach Larry Coker.

3. Miami vs Florida State, October 3, 1987
3 of 6Michael Irvin caught a 73-yard touchdown pass with 2:22 left and Miami overcame a 19-3 deficit to beat No. 4 Florida State 26-25 when the Seminoles failed on a two-point conversion with 42 seconds remaining. Quarterback Steve Walsh threw three touchdowns against FSU and Miami went on to record its first-ever undefeated season, capped by a 20-14 win over Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl.

2. Miami vs Notre Dame, November 25, 1989
4 of 6An emotional Hurricanes squad snapped No. 1 Notre Dame's 23-game winning streak with a 27-10 win in front of a rabid Orange Bowl crowd. Leading 17-10 in the third quarter, Miami converted a 3rd-and-43 from its own seven when Randall Hill caught a 44-yard pass behind the Notre Dame defense. The Hurricanes went on to win its second national title in three years in the Sugar Bowl.

1. Miami vs Nebraska, January 2, 1984
5 of 6Freshman quarterback Bernie Kosar threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns and Miami held Nebraska on a two-point conversion with 49 seconds left to win the Orange Bowl 31-30. The victory over the top-ranked Huskers allowed No. 4 Miami to leapfrog to No. 1 and win its first national championship.
