In 200 games with the San Diego Chargers over 13 seasons, Seau had 1,288 tackles, 15 picks, 16 fumble recoveries and 47 sacks. Not to mention the teammates he inspired and motivated and opponents he intimidated.

During his time in San Diego, there was more losing than winning. He suffered through five double-digit loss seasons and just three playoff campaigns, with the best in 1994. The Chargers lost to the 49ers in the Super Bowl that season.

To say that Seau played hurt at times would be an understatement. Trainers say he often played when he shouldn't have.

Seau was still as fiery in Miami but in his mid-30s and not the same player he had been in San Diego.

After a tearful retirement announcement, a more joyful Seau resurfaced in New England.

Seau's Patriots defeated his former team, the Chargers, in the 2007 AFC Championship Game, in which Seau had one sack.
