Arizona outfielder Gerardo Parra hit a leadoff home run on the first pitch of Saturday's game against Miami in what turned out to be the only run scored in a 1-0 Diamondbacks win over the Marlins. It was the first time a nine-inning, 1-0 game featured a first-pitch leadoff home run since Sept. 2, 1963, according to Elias Sports Bureau. In that game, Cincinnati Reds rookie first baseman Pete Rose homered off of New York Mets righthander Jay Hook on the first pitch of the second game of a doubleheader played at the Polo Grounds. The rare feat also happened on Sept. 14, 1993, when Pittsburgh's Carlos Garcia homered off of Chris Hammond on the first pitch in a 1-0 rain-shortened game against the Marlins that was called after just six innings.
