The first snap of the 2010 college football season is still months away, but as the calendar flips to June, it's time to start preparing for another college fantasy season. Preseason drafts will be kicking off over the next two months (believe it or not, some are already underway) and Athlon Sports is here to help you win your league in 2010.
Consider yourself lucky if you own one of the first two picks in a 2010 draft. The first two selections should be a choice between two quarterbacks – Houston’s Case Keenum or Nevada’s Colin Kaepernick.
However, after the top two, it gets interesting. MTSU’s Dwight Dasher is one of the top returning fantasy quarterbacks, but how will the hire of Mike Schultz impact his value? Is Texas A&M quarterback Jerrod Johnson or Missouri passer Blaine Gabbert worth a look at No. 3?
With some uncertainty at quarterback with the third pick, the attention could turn to running backs. Oregon State’s Jacquizz Rodgers and UTEP’s Donald Buckram are the top two options, but this is a loaded year at running back. Options like Temple’s Bernard Pierce, California’s Shane Vereen, Wisconsin’s John Clay, North Texas’ Lance Dunbar or Nevada’s Vai Taua are all worthy of Round One consideration, and shouldn’t slip too far into Round Two.
Finding a clear-cut No. 1 fantasy receiver won’t be easy. Notre Dame’s Michael Floyd is one of the nation’s most talented receivers, but he has been unable to stay healthy in his two seasons at South Bend. Oklahoma’s Ryan Broyles is worth a look, along with Hawaii’s Greg Salas, Texas A&M’s Jeff Fuller and Southern Miss’ DeAndre Brown. However, with all of the uncertainty surrounding the position, none of the receivers are locks to go in the first round.
Tight ends usually start coming off the board in round four, but expect the first selection from this position to be later than normal. Just like wide receivers, tight ends are wide-open at the top. Wisconsin’s Lance Kendricks or Notre Dame’s Kyle Rudolph are the top two options, but with no clear-cut No. 1, tight ends will fall in drafts. If you don’t end up with one of the top two options, there are quality candidates in Arkansas’ D.J. Williams, Georgia’s Orson Charles and UL Lafayette’s Ladarius Green to consider.
