Georgia Bulldogs' Top 10 Players for 2012

Washington is expected to see time at both defensive end and outside linebacker this fall, after playing in 12 games in 2011. He made six starts last season at outside linebacker and finished his junior campaign with 17 tackles (11 solo) and six tackles for loss. He also had five sacks, which were the second-most by any Bulldog defender in 2011. He had two sacks in the game against Mississippi State and one versus LSU in the SEC Championship Game. Entering his senior season, Washington has a total of 54 tackles, 38 of those solo stops, 14 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.

King led Georgia in receptions (47), receiving yards (705) and touchdown catches (eight) last season. He finished sixth in the SEC in total receiving yards and eighth in receiving yards per game (50.4). He saved his best effort for the end of the season as he piled up 205 yards receiving on just six catches in the Outback Bowl against Michigan State. One of those six catches against the Spartans went for 80 yards and a touchdown. His eight touchdowns led the team as he found the end zone in seven different games. He caught two touchdown passes versus Coastal Carolina. For his career, the rising senior has 93 receptions for 1,652 yards (17.8 ypr) and 11 touchdowns in 42 games, 27 of those starts.

Crowell was named SEC Freshman of the Year last season after leading Georgia and finishing sixth in the SEC in rushing with 850 yards. Crowell averaged 4.6 yards per carry and added five touchdowns on the ground. He also caught eight passes out of the backfield for 59 yards and a score. Crowell did all of this in just 12 games as he missed two complete games and parts of several others due to injuries and other reasons. The freshman had four 100-yard rushing games in 2011, including a season-high 147 yards against Ole Miss. He also reached the century mark on the ground versus Auburn, Mississippi State and South Carolina.

Jenkins made his Bulldogs debut last season after transferring from Gulf Coast (Miss.) Community College. In 14 games, seven of those starts, Jenkins contributed 28 tackles (14 solo), six tackles for loss, three sacks and a forced fumble. He also had an interception in the Outback Bowl against Michigan State. Jenkins made his first career start as a Bulldog against Tennessee. His season-high for tackles was six, which came against Georgia Tech. Jenkins is projected to be the starter at nose tackle this fall, where he will line up beside Abry Jones and Cornelius Washington, giving the Bulldogs one of the top defensive lines in the SEC.

Williams led the team in tackles in 2011 with 72, including 48 solo stops. He also was second on the team with four interceptions, had six pass breakups, five tackles for loss, recovered two fumbles and forced another one. He made his mark on special teams as well, blocking an extra-point attempt against Tennessee. He tied his career high of seven tackles in four different games last season, including in the Outback Bowl against Michigan State. He also had an interception against the Spartans, which he returned for 45 yards. Williams will be counted on heavily at the start of the 2012 season due to the suspensions that will be served by the other three returning starters in the Bulldogs’ secondary.

Ogletree had quite the impact in 2011, despite playing in just eight games. He started every game he played in and finished his sophomore campaign with 52 tackles, 41 of those solo, 7.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and two pass breakups. After appearing in just one of Georgia’s first seven games, Ogletree took over as one of the starting inside linebackers and didn’t look back the remainder of the 2011 season. He led the Bulldogs in tackles in each of the last five games, including 13 in the Outback Bowl against Michigan State. Just like he did in 2011, Ogletree won’t play a full season in 2012 either as he will be suspended anywhere from two to four games this fall for a violation of team rules.

Mitchell was a solid and reliable contributor as a true freshman in 2011, as he tied for second on the team in receptions (45) and second in receiving yards (665). He also caught four touchdown passes in the 11 games he played in, nine of those being starts. In his Bulldog debut, Mitchell caught three passes for 64 yards and a TD in the season opener against Boise State. His season high for receptions was seven, which came in the Outback Bowl against Michigan State, while his high-water mark for yards was when he had 126 (on just three catches) against Tennessee. Mitchell’s versatility will be on display this season as the coaching staff moved him to cornerback during spring practice to get him ready to play on both sides of the ball this fall. The move was necessitated by both the departure of several players before spring practice began as well as the early-season suspensions levied against three starters in the secondary. Mitchell played both cornerback and receiver in high school and reportedly lobbied the coaching staff for the dual duty.

Rambo established himself as one of the premier safeties in the nation last season as he was named first-team All-SEC and also first-team All-American by the Associated Press and two other services. Rambo picked off eight passes in 2011, which led the SEC and ranked him second in the nation. He returned one of those picks for a touchdown, a 24-yard return against Auburn. He also finished his junior campaign with 55 tackles (34 solo), which tied him for fourth on the team, along with eight pass breakups and a forced fumble. Rambo did this in 13 games, as he was suspended for last season’s opener against Boise State. Unfortunately, it appears that Rambo will also miss this season’s opener against Buffalo, the beginning of his reported four-game suspension for a violation of team rules.

Jones made quite the first impression in his inaugural season in a Georgia uniform. After sitting out the 2010 season following his transfer from USC, Jones returned to the field with a vengeance, racking up the stats on the field and the accolades off it. As a sophomore in 2011, Jones earned consensus All-American honors after leading the SEC and finishing fifth in the nation in sacks per game with nearly one a contest. His total of 13.5 was also just a half-sack shy of breaking the Georgia single-season record. Jones also accumulated a total of 70 tackles (39 solo), 19.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and two pass breakups in 14 games. Besides sacks, he also led the conference in tackles for loss and ranked 16th in the nation in that category.

In just his second season as Georgia’s starting quarterback, Murray established himself as one of the SEC’s top quarterbacks as he threw for 3,149 yards and a school single-season record 35 touchdowns in 2011. Murray earned second-team All-SEC honors after leading the conference in touchdown passes, finishing second in passing yards and fifth in passing efficiency. Murray needs just 14 touchdown passes in his junior season in 2012 to become the Bulldogs’ career leader. Murray also had 111 yards rushing and two touchdowns on the ground, making him responsible for a total of 37 touchdowns in 2011, another school single-season record. He had a least one touchdown pass in all but one game last season, had three games in which he threw four touchdown passes, and tossed a career-high five against New Mexico State.
