The Analysis

Samuel is another in a long line of extremely versatile athletes. He could end up playing running back, wide receiver, safety or corner, or even linebacker with some added weight. He was predominately a linebacker/running back in high school and those are the two most likely spots for Samuel.

As a linebacker, he is very comfortable playing down low in the box despite his smaller stature. His attacking style of play, combined with his athleticism might be perfectly suited for the hybrid linebacker/safety role of rover. He is a solid blitzer and tackler. He will need to add some bulk if he expects to play a pure linebacker position but other than size he has the physical and mental tools to be a dynamic defender.

As a running back Samuel is a slasher. He does not have a lot of open field wiggle but will plant and head up field nicely. He does not waste too many movements. He has the speed to get to the edge and has the bulk to run between the tackles. Ryan Grant of the Green Bay Packers is a nice comparison – just not as big. He puts his foot in the ground and heads north and south.
