The Analysis
This short, squatty prospect is built like a tank. His low center of gravity allows him to get underneath most blockers pads and provide a great push up the middle. His raw power and strength comes from his lower body — where coaches want it — giving him plenty of force to hold the point of attack. He will rarely get moved off the ball and is comfortable playing against the double team as most teams were forced to double him in high school. He has the rare size and ability to play the zero technique along the defensive line in a 3-4 scheme.
The big defensive tackle will never have great speed and pursuit ability, but Hunter does show effort in this area. When it comes to rushing the passer, he utilizes a very effective bull-rush technique, but the extent of his pass-rush ability ends there. He will need to develop more moves if he expects to play three downs. Hunter will also need to maintain focus on bringing his whole frame to the tackling party instead of clutching and grabbing at ball-carriers.
At barely six foot, his main area of concern will always be his overall lack of size.
