Lynn Katoa (Athlon Consensus #76)
Teams Of Interest
Committed to Colorado
The Skinny
Katoa has only played two years of organized football
The Analysis
There are very few prospects at any position with higher upside than Mr. Katoa. He has played organized football for only two full years and essentially has turned himself into an elite defender. Getting by strictly on raw athleticism and inherent instincts, Katoa makes plays everywhere on the field. He has the speed and acceleration to play on the edge while also showing the power and strength to take on A and B gap running plays.
The talented linebacker is also a very smart kid. The No. 1 player in the state of Utah this season will be graduating early and enrolling this spring. He already has earned credits from BYU.
Of course only having two years of experience has its downfalls as well. Katoa finds himself lost at times due to poor reads or incorrect reaction. His technique and fundamentals across the board will need improvement (tackling, blitzing, coverage, etc.), but the spring semester on campus should allow him to work those kinks out prior to his freshman season.
