The Analysis
Jones has all the raw ability coaches look for in a quarterback. He has a strong enough arm to make all the throws. He is a big kid with a well built frame. He will never open eyes as a runner but does a really nice job of sliding around in the pocket as he looks down field for open targets. He has a quality that Steve Young perfected: running to throw not running to run. Jones is just not as mobile as Young.
Jones’ most exciting attribute is his mental make-up. He shows solid instincts and a great ability to find open receivers. He has great patience, poise and timing from within the pocket. Jones is very comfortable standing tall in the pocket.
His motion and release are compact and quick. Jones has shown the productivity and leadership qualities needed to be a top-flight talent on the next level.
