Jermie Calhoun (Athlon Consensus #8)

The Skinny
Rushed for 1,910 yards and 30 touchdowns his Senior season
The Analysis
This Texas native has the best instincts at the running back position in the 2008 class. He has naturally gifted vision and balance. His ability to cut at full speed while staying away from defenders is amazing. This jump-cut ability is what makes guys like Mike Hart and Ray Rice so difficult to tackle.
He is always moving forward, and he does so with power. His lower body moves almost on its own as his hip turn and footwork are phenomenal. His power comes from his legs. That being said, he can hit the corner and explode down the sideline. He will turn short runs into big plays due to his tackle-breaking ability and open-field burst.
Calhoun, starting his last three years at Van High School, never rushed for less than 1,600 yards in a single season. After nearly reaching the 1,000-yard mark in his freshman season, Calhoun compiled 5,287 yards rushing and 70 touchdowns in his final three seasons of high school football.
