The Skinny

Led Cedar Hill High to the 5A state championship in 2006

The Analysis

This big defensive tackle prospect is a space eater. He has good power and shows the ability to hold his ground at the point of attack. He rarely gets knocked backwards off the line of scrimmage. This is due in part to his initial burst off the line. He gets a nice push up the middle on pass plays and has the ability to flow to the ball on run plays. He has a good motor and will maintain his effort even if he is initially blocked.

Humphrey does play too high most of the time, however. This can be fixed by solid coaching. Although he shows good strength, he will get pushed around by bigger blockers. He will also need to get bigger. He does not have the speed to be moved to the outside. On film, he shows that he has a spin move, but that is the extent of his pass-rushing repertoire.

He might be too small to be an all-conference-type player. Longhorn fans are waving goodbye to 6-5, 325-pound Frank Okam this season. Humphrey is not as good as Okam, but he should still be a solid contributor in Austin.
Look for Humphrey to drop when Athlon finalizes its rankings after Signing Day.
