The Analysis

The top player in the Beaver State is a versatile and interesting prospect. He has the thickness and bulk to play inside at defensive tackle as well as on the edge as an end. Because Notre Dame runs a 3-4 - Johnson does not have the ability to play the zero tackle technique - he will be placed at defensive end.
Johnson shows a powerful burst off te line of scrimmage, doing a solid job of holding the point of attack. He also does a great job of disrupting plays, consistently finding ways to get penetration into the backfield. He brings all of his weight when he tackles, completely and authoritatively wiping out ball-carrierers.

He is not an incredibly fast player but 3-4 defenses call for bigger, more physical defensive ends who can play the run well. Johnson, who is very solid against the run, is an ideal prospect for Corwin Brown's 3-4 scheme.
