The Analysis

The young defensive back’s primary strength is just that: his size and strength. Despite already being an imposing figure — especially for a safety — his frame will allow him to get even bigger. The question then becomes: will he get moved down to weak-side backer? It would be nice to see him stay at safety. He has very few physical flaws. His range and versatility are practically second to none in the ’08 class.

Finley rarely finds himself out of position to make the play. But he will need to focus on finishing the play once he gets to where he is supposed to be. He can, at times, be too aggressive. Once at Florida, Finley must learn to use his closing speed — which is great — with a bit more control and discipline. Breaking down on ball-carriers in space and a lack of elite speed are his two major areas of concern.

Finley is just a solid all-around player. He has a grasp of every aspect of the safety position. He has solid deep cover skills, fills against the run well, and is athletic enough to match-up in man-to-man situations. He will likely be used a bit on offense as well.
