The Analysis

This bulky defensive player’s best attribute is his run-stuffing ability. His big, strong frame allows him to fire gaps and meet running backs in the hole with authority. He is at his best when he is attacking the line of scrimmage. He is very physical tackler who normally engulfs smaller high school backs. He squares his pads very well and explodes into the backfield on pass blitzes.

Lateral movement will always be his weakest asset. He can struggle getting through traffic to the ball-carrier. Although his recognition skills are decent, coaches will likely work very hard to perfect this area in order to mask his lack of pure athleticism and quickness. He will never be a fast-twitch athlete.

With his tremendous size and lack of speed/agility, Beal is likely to end up at defensive end. His straight-ahead burst and power will be well suited along the defensive line.
