The Analysis

Physically, Andrew Sweat is ready to play football at the Division I-A level. He has a great frame with room to add bulk. He is very comfortable in the in the middle of the defense — even his stance is college ready. He plays low and hard with great knee bend and effective pad level. He is very physical and looks to destroy the ball-carrier when he gets there.

Sweat does not have elite speed, something that may get exposed. However, he has great explosion and acceleration. His ability to flow through traffic and his closing speed can cover-up his lack of top-end speed against the run. But in pass coverage it will get exposed. Although he has solid diagnostic skills and great burst, his aggressiveness will be exploited on the next level. Play-action fake, counter traps and bootlegs will all get Sweat out of position. Also, smaller third-down backs will lose him in man-to-man coverage schemes. He must learn to play with the same intensity but with more control.    

He certainly has the genes to play big time football as his father played at Syracuse and in the NFL for the Kansas City Chiefs.
