The Analysis
It is safe to say that Mr. Luck is the gem of the Cardinal recruiting class. He has very polished ball-handling skills and will be very comfortable in play-action fakes, sprint outs and bootlegs. He shows above average mobility and is a solid passer on the run. Luck has great natural feel for the pass rush and does an effective job of escaping pressure. He shows good leadership skills, decision-making ability and footwork.
His throwing motion is a bit quirky as he “pushes’ the football. The question will be whether to try to fix it or not. His release is very compact and quick, however, so Jim Harbaugh may leave it alone. His arm strength is adequate but not elite. Luck may not have any one elite tool, but he is one of the more advanced quarterback prospects when it comes to the little things.
Former USC Trojan John David Booty is a solid comparison in size and release.
Who’s Got It Right: AC100, Luck might be the most agreed upon prospects on this list.
