By Patrick Snow

The mock draft was conducted as an eight team total points league, with a standard conference lineup selected using only players from the SEC – 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex – RB/WR, 1 K, 1 DEF and 3 bench spots. Each starting spot was allowed 12 starts during the season, eliminating the need to have a backup for every position for bye weeks.

Draft results based upon standard scoring system – passing touchdowns = 4 pts, rushing touchdowns = 6 pts, 25 passing yards = 1 point, 10 rush/receiving yards = 1 point, receptions = 0.5 points, 2 point conversions = 2 points

Round 1

1. Patrick Snow - Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas
2. Rob Doster - Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama
3. Braden Gall - John Brantley, QB, Florida
4. Jake Veyhl - Randall Cobb, WR, Kentucky
5. Doug Word - Washaun Ealey, RB, Georgia
6. Charlie Miller - Stephen Garcia, QB, South Carolina
7. Mitch Light - Cameron Newton, QB, Auburn
8. Steven Lassan - A.J. Green, WR, Georgia

We’re used to seeing the SEC at the top of college football, especially with four straight BCS titles by three different schools, but the fantasy options can be limited in the nation’s toughest conference. You obviously want to get an elite player in this round, but even our first two selections- Arkansas’ Ryan Mallett (foot) and Alabama’s Mark Ingram (tandem) - could face potential issues.

Our drafters took the correct path with this league in staying safe early and getting a productive player, regardless of position, from a solid offense. If you’re having trouble deciding on your top SEC pick, lean towards a top quarterback early.

Round 2

9. Steven Lassan - Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
10. Mitch Light - Mario Fannin, RB, Auburn
11. Charlie Miller - Derrick Locke, RB, Kentucky
12. Doug Word - Darvin Adams, WR, Auburn
13. Jake Veyhl - Tauren Poole, RB, Tennessee
14. Braden Gall - Jeff Demps, RB, Florida
15. Rob Doster - Greg Childs, WR, Arkansas
16. Patrick Snow - Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina

Steven Lassan may have surprised some with his choice of ‘backup’ running back Trent Richardson of Alabama to begin the round, but the talented sophomore should put up huge numbers this season and will be a solid fantasy play.

I think there was great value at receiver here. Auburn’s Darvin Adams (997 yards/ 10 TDs), Arkansas’ Greg Childs (897 yards/ 7 TDs) and South Carolina’s Alshon Jeffery (43 catches/ 6 TDs in his last 9 games) all should have productive years.

Round 3

17. Patrick Snow - Robert Elliott, RB, Mississippi State
18. Rob Doster - Brandon Bolden, RB, Ole Miss
19. Braden Gall - Orson Charles, TE, Georgia
20. Jake Veyhl - D.J. Williams, TE, Arkansas
21. Doug Word - Caleb King, RB, Georgia
22. Charlie Miller - Ronnie Wingo, RB, Arkansas
23. Mitch Light - Deonte Thompson, WR, Florida
24. Steven Lassan - Greg McElroy, QB, Alabama

Charlie Miller got a potential gem this round in Arkansas running back Ronnie Wingo. With Kentucky’s Derrick Locke already in the RB slot, Miller got a solid flex player, and then grabbed one of the talented Arkansas receiver trio (Joe Adams) in the next round.

Lassan ended the round (and started Round 4) with the powerful Alabama offense. With the Tide offensive line, the three straight picks of Richardson/McElroy/Jones could score huge this season.

Round 4

25. Steven Lassan - Julio Jones, WR, Alabama
26. Mitch Light - Warren Norman, RB, Vanderbilt
27. Charlie Miller - Joe Adams, WR, Arkansas
28. Doug Word - Jordan Jefferson, QB, LSU
29. Jake Veyhl - Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia
30. Braden Gall - Chad Bumphis, WR, Mississippi State
31. Rob Doster - Chris Relf, QB, Mississippi State
32. Patrick Snow - Terrance Toliver, WR, LSU

Jake Veyhl got great value with his selection of Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray. There is always some concern with new signal callers, but the redshirt freshman has a solid running game behind a top-notch offensive front. Add in Mark Richt’s track record with quarterbacks, and Murray looks like a solid play.

Braden Gall also had a nice choice in Mississippi State receiver Chad Bumphis. The talented sophomore could have a breakout season in the second year under Dan Mullen, and Bumphis is a nice backup plan if you miss out on the top 7-8 wideouts.

Round 5

33. Patrick Snow - Michael Dyer, RB, Auburn
34. Rob Doster - Alabama Defense
35. Braden Gall - Mike Ford, RB, LSU
36. Jake Veyhl - Marcus Lattimore, RB, South Carolina
37. Doug Word - Weslye Saunders, TE, South Carolina
38. Charlie Miller - Florida Defense
39. Mitch Light - Jordan Reed, TE, Florida
40. Steven Lassan - Chris Rainey, WR, Florida

Many would think that top defenses like Alabama and Florida would be drafted before here, but that only speaks to the depth of defenses in the SEC. You can feel comfortable getting a top 6-7 defense in this league. This was also the round to select some talented freshman running backs who will try to fulfill their lofty recruiting rankings—Auburn’s Michael Dyer, South Carolina’s Marcus Lattimore, and LSU redshirt Mike Ford.

Round 6

41. Steven Lassan - Luke Stocker, TE, Tennessee
42. Mitch Light - LSU Defense
43. Charlie Miller - Marcus Green, TE, Mississippi State
44. Doug Word - Georgia Defense
45. Jake Veyhl - Ole Miss Defense
46. Braden Gall - Auburn Defense
47. Rob Doster - Brandon Barden, TE, Vanderbilt
48. Patrick Snow - South Carolina Defense

Round 7

49. Patrick Snow - Philip Lutzenkirchen, TE, Auburn
50. Rob Doster - Andre Debose, WR, Florida
51. Braden Gall - Russell Shepard, WR, LSU
52. Jake Veyhl - Mike Hartline, QB, Kentucky
53. Doug Word - Jarius Wright, WR, Arkansas
54. Charlie Miller - Gerald Jones, WR, Tennessee
55. Mitch Light - Zac Stacy, RB, Vanderbilt
56. Steven Lassan - Mississippi State Defense

Round 8

57. Steven Lassan - Tennessee Defense
58. Mitch Light - Blair Walsh, K, Georgia
59. Charlie Miller - Caleb Sturgis, K, Florida
60. Doug Word - Vick Ballard, RB, Mississippi State
61. Jake Veyhl - Terrell Zachery, WR, Auburn
62. Braden Gall - Broderick Green, RB, Arkansas
63. Rob Doster - Tyler Russell, QB, Mississippi State
64. Patrick Snow - Onterio McCalebb, RB, Auburn

Round 9

65. Patrick Snow - Alex Tejada, K, Arkansas
66. Rob Doster - Wes Byrum, K, Auburn
67. Braden Gall - Josh Jasper, K, LSU
68. Jake Veyhl - David Oku, RB, Tennessee
69. Doug Word - Spencer Lanning, K, South Carolina
70. Charlie Miller - Matt Simms, QB, Tennessee
71. Mitch Light - Marquis Maze, WR, Alabama
72. Steven Lassan - Stevan Ridley, RB, LSU

Round 10

73. Steven Lassan - Ryan Fowler, K, Vanderbilt
74. Mitch Light - Arkansas Defense
75. Charlie Miller - Rueben Randle, WR, LSU
76. Doug Word - Jeremiah Masoli, QB, Ole Miss
77. Jake Veyhl - Cade Foster, K, Alabama
78. Braden Gall - Mike Gillislee, RB, Florida
79. Rob Doster - Kenny Miles, RB, South Carolina
80. Patrick Snow - Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas

Doug Word made a very interesting choice in potential Ole Miss quarterback Jeremiah Masoli. The former Oregon star will be eligible immediately if his graduate school paperwork clears, and he would be a bargain this late in the draft.
