The Analysis
PROS: DeMarcus Ware is the first comparison that comes to mind. Physicality and raw size are remarkable aspects of Edwards game. He is much bigger, stronger and quicker than nearly every player he faces at the prep level, so he dominates behind the line of scrimmage. He strength, power and length gives him the ability to disengage consistently and he displays solid fundamentals. He takes proper angles on the both the front and backside. He is stout at the point of attack and will excel against the run, while still displaying the skills to lean against the edge and get pressure on the quarterback. Edwards is a powerful player with elite size and strength who has big-time upside at a variety of positions.CONS: While the DeMarcus Ware comparison is fare, it also may mean he might be a better fit in a 3-4 scheme as the power end or edge rusher rather than the traditional end position. Should he stay in a 4-3 system, he could easily bulk up and play inside. He is so big that, at times, he can appear a bit tight in his stance. Maintaining consistent pad level will be key for a player of his size in the two-point stance. He could also use plenty of development in the finer techniques of hand placement and tackling form.
BIO: He is the son of former NFL and Florida State defensive back Mario Edwards (Cowboys, Buccaneers). He won Class 4A Defensive Player of the Year in 2010 and was a first-team Class 4A All-State pick. He will play in the Under Armour All-American Game.
