The Analysis

PROS:McCarthy is a player with excellent size and an overall frame that is perfectly suited for the interior of most defensive line schemes. While he is not overly explosive, he is strong at the point of attack and will hold his ground with solid hand usage and upper body strength. He can beat blockers on a regular basis and disrupts the entire interior of the offensive line. Plays very well from tackle to tackle - both up the field and laterally.

CONS: His lack of overall explosiveness means that he may not be a great pass rusher on the next level. His get-off can be inconsistent and, at times, he will look to work around blockers rather than through them. This is a raw player with loads of upside but who needs plenty of refinement in technique, fundamentals and burst.

BIO:Posted 69 tackles and 12 sacks in 2010 and will play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Missed some of his senior year with a knee injury.
