The Analysis
PROS: Very simply put, Armstead is a huge prospect. He has incredible length and is a rangy athlete for a player who will line up in the trenches. He has the power to match, as he simply overpowers blockers when on defense. He has solid “get-off” that translates well to both sides of the ball and shows quality agility/quickness for a player of his size. He could end up as the nation’s best defensive end or offensive tackle. He has prototype size and athleticism for both positions. He can dominate the line of scrimmage no matter what side of the ball he is on.CONS: Refining his technique and fundamentals will be huge for Armstead. Things like hand placement, pad level and footwork will all improve rapidly once he settles on a position. Even the experts are torn on whether he projects to the O-line or to D-line. Rivals projects him on defense, ESPN projects him to offense while Scout and 24/7 list him on both sides of the ball.
BIO: Will play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Also wants to play basketball in college. League Lineman of the Year and All-Area selection. His older brother Armond plays football at USC.
