Brady Quinn, Notre Dame
6'4", 231, Senior
As a junior in 2005, Quinn demolished all of the single-season Notre Dame records for passing and total offense, and with a year left he already owns most of the school’s career records. Last season, he completed 65 percent of his passes for 3,919 yards and 32 touchdowns with only seven interceptions. He finished fourth in Heisman voting, making him the nation’s top returning vote-getter.
Running Back
Michael Bush, Louisville
6'2", 250, Senior
Bush led the nation in scoring last fall with an average of 14.4 points per game and finished second nationally with 23 rushing touchdowns, a school record. He rushed for 1,143 yards at 5.6 per carry, finished second in the Big East with 139.6 all-purpose yards per game and landed on the all-conference first team.
Running Back
Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma
6'2", 218, Junior
In 2004, Peterson set an NCAA single-season record for freshmen with 1,925 yards, averaging 5.7 per carry and running for 15 touchdowns. He topped the 100-yard rushing mark in 11 different contests. Last fall, despite missing all or most of four games with an ankle injury, he still led all Big 12 running backs with 1,108 yards and 14 touchdowns. He passed the 100-yard mark in five games.
Wide Receiver
Dwayne Jarrett, USC
6'5", 210, Junior
The big, athletic Jarrett is a mismatch for any defensive back. His 61-yard catch and run on 4th-and-9 against Notre Dame last year, keeping the Trojans’ winning streak and Rose Bowl run alive, is an immortal moment. He set the Pac-10 on fire as a freshman in 2004, and last year he caught 91 passes for 1,274 yards and 16 touchdowns. In only two years at USC he has 146 catches for 2,123 yards and 29 TDs.
Wide Receiver
Jeff Samardzija, Notre Dame
6'5", 21, Senior
Samardzija, a.k.a. “the Shark,� came out of nowhere as a junior to put a major dent in Notre Dame’s receiving record book. He tied a 35-year-old school record by catching 77 passes and set new marks with 1,249 receiving yards and 15 touchdown catches. He caught at least one touchdown pass in each of 10 games, including the first eight in a row, and was a consensus first-team All-American.
Tight End
Matt Spaeth, Minnesota
6'6", 270, Senior
Spaeth is the ideal tight end — he blocks like a tackle and his receiving numbers speak for themselves. Over his first three years he has 62 receptions for 729 yards and eight touchdowns, grabbing four TD tosses in each of the last two years. He is a returning first-team All-Big Ten selection.
Center
Dan Mozes, West Virginia
6'4", 290, Senior
Two years ago, Mozes made first-team All-Big East as a guard. Last fall, after switching to center, he was a second-team AP All-American. He again will spearhead the Mountaineer line that has paved the way for the top rushing attack in the conference for four straight years.
Offensive Line
Sam Baker, USC
6'5", 305, Junior
After redshirting his first year at USC, Baker has been the Trojans’ starting left tackle ever since. He was a consensus first-team Freshman All-American and second-team All-Pac-10 in ’04; first-team all-conference and third-team AP All-America in 2005.
Offensive Line
Justin Blalock, Texas
6'4", 329, Senior
Blalock takes the baton from Jonathan Scott as the latest in a long line of All-Americans at Offensive Tackle U. He simply overpowers defenders from his right tackle position. He has been first-team All-Big 12 the last two years and was third-team AP All-America in 2005.
Offensive Line
Levi Brown, Penn State
6'5", 328, Senior
Brown returns at left tackle for the Nittany Lions after leading the team with 869 offensive snaps last season. He has started 34 of the last 35 games, and finished 2005 as a first-team All-Big Ten selection and second-team AP All-America.
Offensive Line
Arron Sears, Tennessee
6'4", 320, Senior
After starting one game as a freshman in 2003, Sears has been a regular in the lineup ever since. Over his career he has played at every O-Line position except center; he played four positions in the LSU game alone in 2005. Sears is a first-team All-SEC returnee.
Kicker
Mason Crosby, Colorado
6'2", 210, Senior
Crosby was Athlon Sports’ preseason All-America kicker in 2005. He responded by hitting 22-of-29 field goal attempts, including 5-of-7 from 50 yards and out, and was a first-team All-American.
Kick returner
Ted Ginn Jr., Ohio State
6'0", 175, Junior
In 2005, Ginn finished fourth nationally with a 29.6-yard average on 18 kick returns, running one back for a touchdown. He is also one of the most dangerous wide receivers around.
