2008 HEISMAN WATCH

Athlon's Top Five Candidates To Win The Heisman Trophy

Comments

#1 - Tim Tebow

QB

Florida

Record-setting season keeps Tebow ahead of the pack for the Heisman Trophy, while one rushing touchdown against Michigan would give him the record for most in a season by a quarterback.

#2 - Darren McFadden

RB

Arkansas

Pat White and Chase Daniel stumble in final regular season action, opening the door for McFadden to move up the rankings. Ran for 100 or more yards in nine games and led the Razorbacks to eight victories this season - including a huge upset over LSU.

#3 - Chase Daniel

QB

Missouri

Opportunity to make a statement in the Big 12 title falls short, as Oklahoma ends dream season and Daniel throws for only 219 yards and no touchdowns.

#4 - Colt Brennan

QB

Hawaii

Brennan rescues Hawaii's undefeated season with late rally against Washington and Warriors will get shot in Sugar Bowl against a tough Georgia squad.

#5 - Pat White

QB

West Virginia

Solid overall season, but White's injury limits playing time and effectiveness in Pittsburgh's upset over the Mountaineers. White should begin 2008 on the front of many Heisman lists.

alright brad...first u dont just "go ahead" and give it someone else becuase he "might" have had a better season if he hadnt missed games. you can never assume that another person might win in the next year..theres injury, other stand out players, more playmakers on the same team...And if Brennan was in the SEC ha! yes he would have more of a national spotlight, but trust me he wouldnt be shining. triple his picks...less TD's and losts of sacks, the sec is the most physical confrence in the country along with the fastest. so u surely cant use that excuse! Tebow!

Tebow has been the BEST player in college football this year. Sure his team lost 3 games, but he played great in every single game this year and his teams defense lost those games, not him. You can't hold being a Sophomore against him. Otherwise the Heisman would be for the most outstanding "upperclassman" in college football instead of most outstanding "player". People are always talking about how great Brennan is and how he deserves it, and he's good don't get me wrong, but look at his schedule...He plays nobody teams all year long. Would Colt Brennan be able to put up the same numbers in the TOUGHEST conference in the NCAA like Tebow does? Nobody knows...June Jones was saying the other day that Tebow wouldn't be able to play in the system that Hawaii runs because he isn't accurate, he had me laughing me head off when he said that. Tebow has completed passes while, sitting in the pocket, on the run, falling down, jumping, and getting hit. How much more accurate do you need to be? Plus you can't forget about all the records he broke this year, and being the first player in history to rush for 20 and pass for 20 td's, it's just phenominal. He's a beast! McFadden, he is good too, but he hasn't been consistant all year. Daniels, I think he is really OVERrated. When they finally played a decent team, they got the snot beat out of them, he played like crap, and his reciever threw for more td's than he did in that game. Whoever doesn't vote for Tim Tebow for Heisman because he's a sophomore or because his team lost 3 games doesn't desrve to be able to vote. Look at the numbers. That's all that really matters.

Yea Tebow is good but why not go ahead and give Colt Brennan the heisman. Besides who's gonna stop Tebow from winning it next year. Also, if it weren't for missing three games then Brennan would have way more passing yards than Tebow(already leads him by about 300). He would probably actaully have over a thousand more passing yards and close to 10 more passing td's. If Colt Brennan were to have played in a conference that got a decent amount of national spotlight like the SEC then he would win the heisman by a landslide.

P.S. could you imagine Brennan quarterbacking Texas. Can I say national championship!!!

everyone else has put up numbers ALL season...these two have only done it when they wanted too...luckily white will be in the Nat'l championship game... and even tho tebow and the gators lost 3 times this year....he's had a great game all year long...so has chase daniel....and with over 5,000 pass yards...do we really need to discuss Brennan!

There is no argument for why tebow should not get it..mcfadden? are you kidding..tebow has more TD's than any other winning QB in heisman history! plus mcfadden had like 3 or 4 games where he didnt even break 100 yards on over 20 carries...Tebow on the other hand didnt have a single game this year where he didnt have at least one TD running and throwing. If it wasnt for their young defense then there would be no conversation b/c UF might be undefeated or at worst have 1 loss...GO TEBOW

WINNER BY A LAND SLIDE. PERIOD! BY THE WAY McFADDEN IS NOT THE LEADING RUSHER THIS YEAR (KEVIN SMITH @ UCF). THE #3 ALL TIME RUSHER IS TONY DORSETT FROM PITT. A VERY GOOD PLAYER, HOWEVER. TEBOW IS GREAT! TEBOW FOR HE15MAN.
GO GATORS!

The Heissman seems to always go to a QB. Darren is the #1 rusher in the NCAA and the #3 all time rusher. Yes they had 4 losses but that was Nutt's fault. Look a running for once. He ad more rushing yards by himself that LSU put together. He's awesome and not only can he run, but he can pass and receive. What more can you ask for in a Heissman winner. Why always quarter backs. Their receivers make them look good. Without their receivers they would be nothing!!!! Look at a runningback for once!!!

Tom R. Moore
Tim Tebow is #1 in the Nation in yards per pass attempt, #3 in yards per completion (behind Tulsa's Smith and Rutgers' Teel) and #2 in passing efficieny (behind Oklahoma's frosh QB Bradford). He's the ONLY QB among the Nation's top 50 or so scorers (being 4th) way ahead of McFadden and Crabtree. He's been "responsible for" 58% of Florida's #5 in the Nation scoring offense, with Chase Daniel being responsible for 43.3% of Missouri's #6 scoring offense, with White being responsible for 35.2% of W. Va's #12 scoring offense, and with Reesing being responsible for 36.9% of Kansas' #2 scoring offense. Tebow has broken Emmitt Smith's single-season rushing TD records (thus having scored more rushing TD's in one season than any and all of the UF's greatest RB's in Florida history) and is poised within 2 rushing TD's of the all-time NCAA record in rushing TD's by a QB. He also already has broken Heisman winner Danny Wuerfel's SEC record for most TD's passing and rushing in a season. All of this in addition to his becoming the first player in NCAA history to pass for more than 20 TD's and rush for more than 20 TD's in a season. Wow! Now, tell me he doesn't deserve to be acknowledged as the best player of the year because he is a sophomore! It's a shame the UF defense couldn't keep the Gator offense on the field more. Tebow already has played #1 LSU well, in Tiger Stadium, with UF losing in the last minute through no fault of Tebow's. None of the others rates winning the Heisman just because their particular "team" manages to "win out" and have the chance to play in the national title game. The chance to play for the title properly is the "team" reward, while the Heisman goes to the best player. That's Tebow, period.
