Post-Week 7 Waiver Wire Report

QB Austen Arnaud, Iowa State
After throwing for 268 yards and three touchdowns against Kansas, even more was expected out of Arnaud against Baylor. The sophomore wasn’t bad, throwing for 176 yards and a touchdown, but most fantasy owners were clearly expecting more. Arnaud gets Nebraska this Saturday and the Cornhuskers rank 99th in the country in pass defense. If you are in need of a pickup at quarterback, Arnaud is one to grab.

QB C.J. Bacher, Northwestern
Bacher has been somewhat of a disappointment this season, throwing seven touchdowns and eight interceptions. The senior has three games without a touchdown pass, but has four in his last two starts. With Purdue and Indiana up next, Bacher is a good pickup for owners in need of a spot starter under center.

QB Jerrod Johnson, Texas A&M
Mike Sherman’s first season in College Station has been a large disappointment. The Aggies have a loss to Arkansas State, a narrow win over Army and the resume didn’t get much of a boost when the Aggies lost to Kansas State in Week 7. If Stephen McGee continues to be sidelined with a shoulder injury, Johnson could be a fantasy option. The sophomore has at least two touchdown passes in four of the last five games and is coming off a career-best 419 yards against the Wildcats. Keep an eye on McGee’s status leading up to Saturday’s game against Texas Tech.

QB Arkelon Hall, Memphis
Hall is still a bit raw, but continues to improve with each outing. In Friday’s loss to Louisville, Hall completed 33 of 55 passes for 350 yards and two touchdowns. Keep in mind this junior has match-ups against SMU and Tulane in November, which could be valuable in the playoffs.

QB Kinsmon Lancaster, Louisiana-Monroe
Lancaster has been hit or miss this season, throwing for eight touchdowns on the year, but six of them have come in two games. However, the Warhawks have a favorable match-up in Week 8 against North Texas. The Mean Green ranks 116th against the run and last in the country in scoring defense. If your roster is lacking a quarterback, Lancaster should be on your radar.

QB Kyle Reed, San Jose State
Reed has been mentioned in this report a couple of times this year and his value continues to increase. In Saturday’s win over Utah State, Reed threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns, giving him 1,114 yards for the season. The junior has favorable match-ups against New Mexico State, Idaho and Louisiana Tech over the next couple of weeks and should continue to improve his passing numbers as he gets more experience.

RB Me’Co Brown, Northern Illinois
Although coach Jerry Kill has been using a running back by committee approach this year, Brown is playing his way into fantasy consideration. In two of his last three games, the freshman has reached the 100-yard mark. Favorable match-ups await Brown the rest of the year and his value could significantly increase over the next couple of weeks if he continues to play well.

RB Marquell Colston, New Mexico State
It’s no secret the Aggies love to throw, but Colston is quietly emerging as a solid threat on the ground. The junior has notched back-to-back 100-yard efforts and posted his first receiving score of the year against Nevada. If Colston can get 20 carries every week, his fantasy value will continue to increase.

RB Collin Mooney, Army
In his last two games, Mooney has 416 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The Black Knights seem to have their offense clicking on all cylinders in recent weeks and this fullback is the team’s top rusher.

RB Devin Moore, Wyoming
The Wyoming offense has been dreadful this year, but Moore has been the lone bright spot. In seven games, Moore has 686 yards and three touchdowns. The senior should continue to see plenty of carries every week, especially with a lackluster passing game. Moore is a solid third or fourth option every week.

RB Chris Ogbonnaya, Texas
After struggling to find a running back earlier this year, it appears the Longhorns have settled on Ogbonnaya. In Saturday’s win over Oklahoma, the senior had over 150 yards of offense, which followed up a two touchdown performance against Colorado. Don’t expect 100 rushing yards every week, but he should post solid all-around numbers.

RB Cedric Peerman, Virginia
A leg injury limited Peerman earlier this season, but he’s shown no signs of injury the last two weeks. The senior has back-to-back 100-yard efforts and three touchdowns during that time. Although the schedule isn’t incredibly favorable, he should see 20-25 touches each week.

RB Jake Sharp, Kansas
Kansas coach Mark Mangino used a recent bye week to make some adjustments in the rushing attack. After two weeks, it’s pretty clear those adjustments have worked well for Sharp. The junior has reached paydirt five times the last two weeks and posted his first 100-yard performance of the year against Colorado.

RB Kordell Young, Rutgers
A sore knee prevented Young from playing in the last four games, but he returned against Cincinnati and rushed for 78 yards and threw a 17-yard touchdown pass. Assuming his knee holds up, Young is a 25 carry back every week.

WR Shawn Bayes, Kent State
Bayes has recorded four straight games with a touchdown reception and he’s easily Kent State’s leading receiver with 24 receptions on the year.

WR Deryn Bowser, Akron
Bowser and teammate Andre Jones have been consistent options for quarterback Chris Jacquemain this season. Jones has been added in a good chunk of leagues, but now it’s time to take a look at Bowser. This junior college transfer has a touchdown in three straight games and has at least five receptions in all but two games this year.

WR Frantrell Forrest, UAB
After missing two games, Forrest had a solid bounce back performance against Houston. The sophomore receiver caught eight passes for 84 yards, giving him 33 receptions for 419 yards and two touchdowns on the year.

WR Jeff Fuller, Texas A&M
This freshman receiver continues to turn in solid performances, as he caught seven passes for 78 yards against Kansas State. Fuller is a must-add in keeper leagues and is worth of a bench spot in most leagues.

WR Dwayne Harris, East Carolina
With Jamar Bryant suspended indefinitely, expect Harris to take on a larger role in the East Carolina receiving corps.

WR Nick Moore, Toledo
Going into Saturday’s game against Michigan, Moore had 20 receptions in five games. However, against the Wolverines, Moore posted a 20 reception game. The senior needs to find the endzone to have more value, but add him and bank on the momentum building.

WR Corey Partridge, BGSU
With Freddie Barnes and Anthony Turner hobbled over the last couple of weeks, Partridge has stepped up in the passing game. The senior caught seven passes for 58 yards and two touchdowns against Akron, which pushed his season total to 30 catches for 303 yards and three scores. The Falcons have several favorable match-ups ahead, so he’s worth a look in deep leagues.

WR Todd Peterson/Nate Swift, Nebraska
Peterson and Swift have combined for 55 receptions, 719 yards and five touchdowns this year. Although it’s not going to be easy predicting which one could have the bigger week, keep them in mind if you need a spot starter. The Cornhuskers have favorable match-ups against Iowa State and Baylor in the next two weeks.

WR David Richmond, San Jose State
With Kevin Jurovich officially redshirting this season due to mono, Richmond should be the top target for quarterback Kyle Reed. Richmond has notched a touchdown in back-to-back games and at least five receptions in every game but one.

WR Carlos Singleton, Memphis
With Arkelon Hall’s continued improvement in the passing game, Singleton has emerged as his favorite target. The six-foot-eight receiver has 38 receptions for 605 yards and two touchdowns on the year. Look for Singleton to continue to shine in C-USA play.

WR Kendall Wright, Baylor
Wright was a popular sleeper pick going into Saturday’s game against Iowa State and the freshman didn’t disappoint. Wright torched the Cyclone secondary for 132 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches, giving him three touchdown grabs on the season. His value is higher in keeper leagues, but is worth a look in select match-ups.

TE Brandon Myers, Iowa
Tight ends on the waiver wire are thin, but Myers is looking like one of the better adds at his position. Teammate Tony Moeaki is hobbled with a leg injury, opening the door for Myers to catch a few more passes. Myers caught four passes for 64 yards and a score against Indiana and he should continue being a reliable option for quarterback Ricky Stanzi.

Going fast

QB Jimmy Clausen, Notre Dame
In a losing effort against North Carolina, Clausen threw for a career-high 383 yards and two touchdowns. The sophomore has 14 touchdowns and 1,631 yards through six contests this season. Considering match-ups against Washington, Navy and Syracuse await Clausen this season, he’s worth a look as a starter.

RB DeLeon Eskridge, Minnesota
This freshman back continues to impress. In Saturday’s win over Illinois, Eskridge rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns, pushing his season total to 478 yards and seven touchdowns. Match-ups against Purdue and Northwestern in the next couple of weeks should prove favorable to Eskridge.

RB Vai Taua, Nevada
If you didn’t take our advice in previous weeks, you may be out of time. Taua has scored eight touchdowns in the last three games and has easily emerged as the top rusher for the Wolf Pack. He’s also emerged as a must-start every week.

WR Marcus Anderson, NMSU
Another week, another touchdown for Mr. Anderson. Give him four straight games with a score.

WR Tyron Carrier/Patrick Edwards, Houston
Carrier and Edwards continue to lead the way in the Houston receiving corps and have extra value in PPR leagues.

WR Jason Chery, Louisiana-Lafayette
The Ragin’ Cajun offense has been on fire in recent weeks. Chery recorded four offensive touchdowns and a kickoff return for a score against North Texas, giving him nine total touchdowns on the year. With his strong performances in recent weeks, Chery has emerged as a must-start in Week 8.

WR Slick Shelley, Tulsa
With a plethora of options in the Tulsa receiving corps, some fantasy owners are frustrated with their hit and miss performances. Shelley has five touchdowns in the last four games, which is tied for second on the team in receiving scores. Shelley has competition for catches, but he’s definitely one of quarterback David Johnson’s favorite options in the endzone.

WR Golden Tate, Notre Dame
With Jimmy Clausen’s continued improvement in the passing game, Tate is producing as a top 40 fantasy receiver. With excellent match-ups against Washington, Navy and Syracuse to close out the year, Tate is a solid add to any squad.

Worth Monitoring

QB/WR Randall Cobb, Kentucky
Keep an eye on Cobb in the next couple of games. With top receiver Dicky Lyons Jr. out with a MCL injury, Cobb should see more time at receiver. His all-around ability could be a valuable late season pickup.

QB Willy Korn, Clemson
With the Clemson offense sputtering, coach Tommy Bowden decided to make a change under center. Cullen Harper has been benched in favor of Korn, a fan favorite and talented recruit. Korn’s has solid mobility and a nice arm, but lacks experience.

QB Aaron Opelt, Toledo
Opelt and his Toledo teammates added to the struggles of Michigan this year with their 13-10 victory in Ann Arbor. Opelt is quietly having a good year, throwing for 1,126 yards and seven touchdowns. The junior needs to reach the endzone a little more, but he’s worth a look in select match-ups.

QB/WR Ryan Tannehill, Texas A&M
The new trend in college football isn’t spread offenses, but quarterbacks playing receiver. Kentucky’s Randall Cobb and Tannehill are both quarterbacks disguised as receivers. Tannehill has 19 receptions for 259 yards and three touchdowns in the last two games. If the Aggies continue posting huge passing games, Tannehill will move from the worth monitoring to the pickup section.

RB Bryce Beall, Houston
Andre Kohn’s return to the field has clouded Beall’s fantasy value, but see how the split in carries works out over the next couple of games.

RB Asher Clark, Air Force
Clark is the future of the Air Force backfield, but saw significant playing time against San Diego State, as he rushed for 109 yards and a score. If Clark continues to get 15-20 carries per week, he will move into the add department of the waiver wire report.

RB Jeff Demps/Chris Rainey, Florida
This freshman duo continues to impress for the Gators. In Saturday’s win over LSU, Demps rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown while Rainey added 66 yards. With Emmanuel Moody battling a high ankle sprain, Demps and Rainey have taken advantage of the extended workload.

RB Logan Dold, Kansas State
With Lamark Brown nursing a staph infection, Dold took advantage of his absence by rushing for 115 yards and a touchdown. The Wildcats will likely give Dold a few more carries when Brown returns, but he’s not worth a fantasy pickup at this point.

RB Shaun Draughn, North Carolina
Greg Little has been one of the disappointments at running back this season, but Draughn has picked up the slack in recent weeks. After rushing for 109 yards and a touchdown against Connecticut, he added 91 against Notre Dame. Although the schedule isn’t too favorable down the stretch, monitor his performance to see if he’s worth a pickup.

RB Donte Harden, Ohio
Harden is emerging as the top Bobcat in the Ohio backfield. The freshman has topped the century mark in two of his last three games, along with adding two scores. Add him to your watch list and keep an eye on his progression.

RB Dennis Kennedy, Akron
In Saturday’s loss to Bowling Green, Kennedy notched his first 100-yard effort since November 4, 2006 against…Bowling Green. Kennedy has a rushing touchdown in his last four games, but wait and see if he continues his production over the next couple of weeks before adding him.

RB Curtis Steele, Memphis
Another solid effort from Steele – 80 rushing yards against Louisville – but he has only one rushing touchdown on the year.

WR T.Y. Hilton, FIU
The Golden Panthers have won three straight games and can no longer be considered the laughingstock of the Sun Belt. Hilton has four touchdown receptions in his last three games, averaging an impressive 33.3 yards per reception and adding punt and kickoff return yardage.

WR Alfred Jenkins, Illinois
Jenkins was a big time recruit for the Fighting Illini this season and the freshman is seeing more looks each week. Against Minnesota, Jenkins caught three passes for 117 yards and two scores. Arrelious Benn is the clear No. 1 on this team, but Jenkins could be emerging as a solid No. 2 option.

WR Kevin Ogletree, Virginia
The Cavaliers have four touchdown passes on the year and Ogletree has been the recipient on three of them. We need to see if the Virginia passing game can continue to perform well in the next couple of weeks, but Ogletree looks like the team’s top redzone threat.

WR Terrell Turner, Arizona
Turner has been a solid No. 2 option for the Wildcats, but is coming off an impressive 10 catch performance against Stanford. Is he emerging as a fantasy threat? Take a wait and see approach.

WR Ryan Whalen, Stanford
The Cardinal has struggled to get consistent play from their quarterbacks this season, but with Richard Sherman out, somebody has to catch passes. Whalen has 27 receptions for 291 yards and a touchdown on the year, but needs better quarterback play to be a week-to-week option.

WR A.J. Whitmore, Tulsa
Getting rushing yards from your receivers is always a plus, but we need to see more receiving potential from Whitmore to call him a fantasy option.

TE Jonathan Phillips, Virginia
If the Cavaliers can continue building on the momentum from back-to-back wins and quarterback Marc Verica continues to play well, Phillips will be worth a look in fantasy leagues. However, he’s not worth an add at this point.
