Week 7: Kansas State at Texas A&M

Kansas State (3-2, 0-1 Big 12) vs. Texas A&M (2-3, 0-1 Big 12)
Saturday, Oct. 11, 2 p.m. ET
Kyle Field, College Station, Texas

In the Big 12, this rates as the Disappointment Bowl.

These teams represent each division’s major disappointments, North and South.

After this meeting, wins will likely be hard to find for either squad.

The Wildcats, who sold out on junior college players to try and ignite this season, rank 12th in total defense and 11th in scoring defense in the league.

They’re coming off a shellacking at home to Texas Tech.

“I think you can’t put so much of yourself into something and not take it personally,” two-time All-Big 12 end Ian Campbell told reporters this week.

At A&M, they’re scuffling on both sides of the ball. The Aggies rank last in the league in scoring offense, scoring defense and total offense. And they’re unsettled at quarterback, where Jerrod Johnson comes off a turnover-plagued game at Oklahoma State and former starter Stephen McGee remains questionable with an injured shoulder.

On the downside of .500 and probably facing underdog status the rest of the way, the Aggies can hope to use Kyle Field as an advantage.

“I think a win anytime is good,” said A&M coach Mike Sherman. “I’d take it anywhere. At home, away, in the backyard – it doesn’t matter. We just need to win a football game.”

Notes:

Mike Goodson’s 80-yard touchdown run against Oklahoma State was the longest of his career, besting the previous best of 64 yards against Baylor in 2006.

With a touchdown pass against Texas Tech, Josh Freeman moved into second place on the K-State career passing TDs list with 36. He needs two more for the school record.

Player to Watch (Wildcats) – Josh Freeman, QB

Freeman can be erratic, but he’s also talented enough to come through with a big game against almost anyone. The Aggies surrendered 401 yards and 56 points to Oklahoma State. While the Wildcats aren’t as explosive as the Cowboys, Freeman should be able to do some damage.

Player to Watch (Aggies) – Mike Goodson, RB

Goodson’s bolt against the Cowboys served a reminder that he’s one of the league’s most explosive backs. He’s just stuck in a bad offense. Still, Goodson’s breakaway speed and moves make him a threat to go the distance anytime.
