Week 5: Idaho at San Diego State

Two teams in desperate situations meet in San Diego. Idaho was blown out last week by the team many people thought was the worst in the country, Utah State. San Diego State has lost six straight games, including one to an FCS team.

The only bright spot on either team is San Diego State freshman quarterback Ryan Lindley, who has averaged 255 passing yards per game. The Aggies rank 33rd in the nation in pass offense, the only major category in which either team ranks higher than 70th.

Idaho, which is last in the nation in scoring defense at 47.5 points per game, has lost 18 straight games against FBS opponents and 10 straight road games. The Vandals lost arguably their best player, safety Shiloh Keo, in the Utah State game.

Notes:

Idaho punter T.J. Conley averages 48.9 yards, third-best in the nation.

Idaho led Utah State 17-14 late in the third quarter last week but lost 42-17.

San Diego State linebacker Russell Allen is tied for seventh in the nation with 1.83 tackles for loss per game.

Key Player (Vandals) – Nate Enderle, QB

Enderle, a sophomore, has played reasonably well considering what he has to work with. He has completed 56.8 percent of his passes with seven touchdowns and five interceptions.

Key Player (Aztecs) – Brandon Sullivan, RB

The Aztecs need to help out their young quarterback with a rushing attack. Sullivan has averaged 43.7 yards per game and a little over 4 yards per carry this season.
