Week 4 Waiver Wire Report

QB Hunter Cantwell, Louisville
Did you give up on him after the Kentucky game? 274 yards and two touchdowns against Kansas State should be more than enough to pick him off the waiver wire. Plus, he’s got favorable match-ups against MTSU and Memphis in the next couple of weeks.

QB Jamie Hampton, Troy
The Trojans fell short of their upset bid against Ohio State, but Hampton was an impressive 30 of 42 for 229 yards and a touchdown. The Trojans have a tough match-up against Oklahoma State next week, but Sun Belt play follows and Hampton is a great week-to-week play.

QB Boo Jackson, Ohio
Sure, he’s had his struggles, but doesn’t a favorable match-up against VMI interest you?

QB Aaron Opelt, Toledo
Despite losing to Fresno State, the Toledo coaching staff has to be pleased with Opelt’s continued improvement. The junior completed 22 of 41 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns against a good Bulldog defense, giving him seven touchdown tosses on the year.

QB Tony Pike, Cincinnati
In his first career start, Pike completed 20 of 24 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns. The Bearcats used their win over Miami, Ohio to get Pike more comfortable and with match-ups against Akron and Marshall ahead, this junior is a solid two week option.

QB Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State
Is the Todd Boeckman era officially over in Columbus? After Pryor’s four touchdown performance against Troy, it’s pretty safe to say this freshman will continue seeing a majority of the reps. Boeckman only threw one pass – an incompletion. This freshman has room to grow, but he’s certainly worth the risk.

RB Matt Asiata, Utah
The preseason hype in the Utah backfield was with Darrell Mack, but Asiata continues to outperform his teammate. Asiata missed most of last season with a broken leg, but has 283 yards and four touchdowns through the first four weeks of the season. Asiata and Mack will continue to split carries, but you have to like the junior’s prowess around the goal-line.

RB Graig Cooper, Miami
With Javarris James out, Cooper took full advantage of his opportunity against Texas A&M. The speedy sophomore rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns, including an impressive 7.9 yards per carry. As long as James is out, Cooper is worth a look in deep leagues.

RB DeLeon Eskridge, Minnesota
Going into Saturday’s game against Florida Atlantic, Minnesota coach Tim Brewster indicated Shady Salamon or Jay Thomas could work their way back into the mix, but Eskridge now appears to have a firm grip on the job. Against the Owls, Eskridge rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Don’t expect Eskridge to be a solid start against Ohio State, but he’s a solid option to have in select weeks.

RB Darius Marshall, Marshall
We’ve highlighted Marshall in a couple of reports, but he’s still on the waiver wire in over 50 percent of U-Sports leagues. With the exception of a 50-yard output against Wisconsin, Marshall has topped 100 yards and has a touchdown in each contest.

RB Emmanuel Moody, Florida
Saturday’s win over Tennessee was Moody’s first extensive action in a Florida uniform. Moody tallied nine carries for 55 yards in early action, before giving way to Chris Rainey in garbage time. Moody has the talent to be a weekly starter, but the Florida backfield is a little crowded, so adding him now is all based upon potential.

RB Rodney Stewart, Colorado
Colorado expected to have a freshman emerge as their starter, but his name wasn’t Rodney Stewart. Darrell Scott was a huge recruit for the Buffaloes, but Stewart has outshined him so far. In the Thursday night victory over West Virginia, Stewart rushed for 166 yards on 28 carries.

RB Shannon Woods, Texas Tech
After Saturday’s performance against Massachusetts, it’s safe to say Woods is officially out of coach Mike Leach’s doghouse. Woods rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns while racking up three receptions for 53 yards. Woods may not have huge performances some weeks, but he’s a solid flex option in your lineup.

WR Ball State Receiver
With Dante Love out, the Cardinals will have a receiver emerge out of Briggs Orsbon, Myles Trempe or Daniel Ifft. Keep your eye on these options in Saturday’s game against Kent State.

WR Marcus Anderson, New Mexico State
Receivers and quarterbacks are Hal Mumme’s specialty in Las Cruces, and Anderson is coming off a three touchdown performance against UTEP. This junior college transfer is worth a gamble, especially if he continues to post touchdowns.

WR Marty Gilyard, Cincinnati
Although the long-term fantasy value of the Bearcats is unknown with Tony Pike at quarterback, Gilyard is a nice option against Marshall and Akron. Gilyard also appears to have passed teammate Marcus Barnett in terms of pecking order for receptions.

WR Jerrel Jernigan, Troy
We mentioned Jernigan last week and after his performance against Ohio State, he gets a mention here once again. Against a tough Buckeye defense, Jernigan caught eight passes for 70 yards and a touchdown. A tough match-up with Oklahoma State awaits, but the Trojans should have a much better offensive effort when Sun Belt play hits.

WR Kerry Meier, Kansas
With Dexton Fields out, it’s hard to get a true grade on the value of the Jayhawk receivers outside of Dezmon Briscoe. Meier has eight or more receptions in every game this season and caught his first touchdown pass of the year in Saturday’s blowout win over Sam Houston State.

WR Naaman Roosevelt, Buffalo
Roosevelt was the hero of last week’s win over Temple and continued his strong play against Missouri. The junior has 27 receptions for 438 yards and three touchdowns on the season and he’s showed few signs of slowing down.

TE Ed Dickson, Oregon
Despite Oregon having four different quarterbacks this year, Dickson continues to catch passes. Against a solid Boise State defense, Dickson grabbed seven receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Although the quarterback situation is a concern, Justin Roper should be back in the next two to three weeks.

TE Eddie Williams, Idaho
Williams has nabbed a touchdown in his last three games and is coming off a solid five catch performance against Utah State. The Vandals aren’t exactly an offensive powerhouse, but Williams looks to be a consistent option at tight end.

Going fast

QB Omar Clayton, UNLV
If you didn’t listen to us in the preseason about Clayton, heed our advice and pickup this sophomore now. In Saturday’s win over Iowa State, Clayton completed 15 of 21 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns. The sophomore has yet to throw an interception return this season and his rushing yardage should continue to increase each week.

QB Austin Davis, Southern Mississippi
With Conference USA play opening, Davis should continue to blister opposing defenses. Although the Golden Eagles fell short in a loss to Marshall, the redshirt freshman completed 27 of 49 passes for 308 yards and a touchdown while adding 45 yards and a score on the ground. He’s still on the waiver wire in over 60 percent of leagues on U-Sports.

QB Michael Desormeaux, UL Lafayette
Over 100 yards rushing and 200 passing against Kent State...and going fast off the waiver wire.

QB Robert Griffin, Baylor
Believe it or not, this freshman is still available in some leagues. Against a good Connecticut defense, Griffin threw for 208 yards and three touchdowns, along with 46 yards and one score on the ground. He’s got some room to grow, but this freshman will be one to have on your roster this year.

QB Kellen Moore, Boise State
Moore’s coming out party happened against one of the best defensive backfields in college football. The redshirt freshman shredded Oregon for 386 yards and three touchdowns. If Moore is on the waiver wire in your league, he’s going to be one of this week’s hottest adds.

RB Andre Anderson, Tulane
Surprisingly, Anderson is available in just over 50 percent of U-Sports leagues. After Saturday’s 157 yards and a touchdown against UL Monroe, he’ll be a top addition to several teams.

RB Victor Anderson, Louisville
The Cardinals will continue to work Brock Bolen into the mix, but Anderson has the most potential in this group. Against Kansas State, the redshirt freshman rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns and now has back-to-back 100-yard performances.

RB MiQuale Lewis, Ball State
Lewis may not have prototypical size for a running back, but he’s a dynamic threat. In four contests, Lewis has seven rushing touchdowns and 529 yards. As long as he stays healthy - Lewis suffered a torn ACL last year after four games – look for this Cardinal running back to have 1,000 rushing yards.

WR Brandon Banks, Kansas State
This Wildcat receiver isn’t the biggest one on the roster, but he can certainly fly. In a Wednesday night match-up against Louisville, Banks caught seven passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Three games into the season and this junior has five touchdown receptions. With the Wildcats looking to throw behind quarterback Josh Freeman, Banks is an excellent wavier wire pickup.

WR Doug Beaumont, Louisville
This sophomore receiver has been mentioned in this section before and after another nine reception performance, he’s a must add. Through three games, Beaumont has 23 receptions for 279 yards. Although he hasn’t found the endzone, that should change soon.

WR Tyron Carrier, Houston/Patrick Edwards, Houston
Tight end/wide receiver Mark Hafner is clearly the top option on this team, but Carrier and Edwards have been the No. 2 and 3 options this year. In a pass-happy offense, Carrier and Edwards should only continue to improve their numbers.

WR A.J. Green, Georgia
This freshman receiver continues to impress. In a showcase game against Arizona State, Green grabbed eight receptions for 159 yards and a touchdown. Green has more value in keeper leagues at this point, but isn’t a bad addition now for potential.

WR Dwayne Harris, East Carolina
Harris hasn’t found the endzone in four contests, but he’s got 28 receptions for 291 yards. It’s only a matter of time before this receiver reaches paydirt.

WR Damaris Johnson, Tulsa
Johnson and teammate Slick Shelley make this week’s waiver wire report, but there’s a little bit of caution that goes into this pickup. The Golden Hurricane have a plethora of receiving options, so don’t be surprised if Johnson has a few up and down weeks.

WR Andrew Means, Indiana
In the preseason, we indicated someone will emerge from the Hoosier receiving corps as a fantasy option. It looks like Means is that player.

WR Dexter McCluster, Ole Miss
The Rebel offense hasn’t been hitting on all cylinders since a close loss to Wake Forest, but McCluster has churned out some solid performances. Against a good Vanderbilt secondary, he caught seven passes for 132 yards and added 44 rushing yards. McCluster is a valuable all-around threat and is one to add to your roster.

WR Darius Passmore, Marshall
Time is running out to add Passmore to your lineup. In Saturday’s road win over Southern Mississippi, the senior added nine receptions for 139 yards and one touchdown. On the season, Passmore has 26 receptions for 473 yards and four touchdowns.

WR Slick Shelley, Tulsa
Shelley started his career at Tennessee, but is beginning to make some waves in a Tulsa uniform. Against New Mexico, Shelley caught six passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns. The Golden Hurricane receiving corps is relatively unsettled at this point, but Shelley is definitely one to watch.

WR Jordan Shipley, Texas
Shipley and teammate Quan Cosby have been solid in the last few weeks and after recommending Cosby in previous weeks, it’s time to consider Shipley. In Saturday’s win over Rice, Shipley caught five passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns.

Worth Monitoring

QB Diondre Borel, Utah State
Borel has made this report before and fantasy owners should continue to monitor his progress. The sophomore leads Utah State with 217 rushing yards and has thrown for 490 yards and five touchdowns.

QB Mark Cann, Marshall
Cann hasn’t thrown more than 228 yards in four starts, but he’s added five touchdowns and has shown steady improvement. The Thundering Herd appear to be building offensive momentum and Cann should only become a better fantasy quarterback as the season progresses.

QB Joe Craddock, MTSU
Craddock was replaced for a few series in Saturday’s loss by Dwight Dasher, but don’t expect that to continue. Craddock has been solid in four contests and is worth a look as a spot starter.

QB Billy Farris, Colorado State
After throwing for 187 yards in the opener against Colorado, Farris has added efforts of 321 yards against Sacramento State and 276 against Houston. It’s too early to call Farris a fantasy option, but monitor his performance in upcoming weeks.

QB Robert Marve, Miami
For owners in keeper leagues, Marve’s value is one to watch closely throughout the year. The ‘Canes shredded Texas A&M for 229 passing yards, with Marve supplying 212 and two touchdowns on 16 of 22 completions. Look for Marve to show continued improvement throughout the year, but hold off on putting him in your starting lineups for 120 leagues.

QB Kevin Moore, Tulane
The Green Wave have showed continued improvement under coach Bob Toledo and Moore has showed promise in three starts. The sophomore has passed for over 220 yards in each start and has two touchdown throws on the year. Moore should have favorable plays the rest of the way, so keep him in mind for a future pickup if needed.

QB Darron Thomas, Oregon
With an injury to starter Jeremiah Masoli against Boise State, the Oregon coaching staff was forced to take the Thomas’ redshirt away. The true freshman completed 13 of 25 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns in relief duty. The Ducks have a suspect defense in Washington State up next, and Thomas could be a sneaky play if he’s the starter.

QB Russell Wilson, NC State
The Wolfpack’s offensive effort before Saturday’s game against East Carolina was rather lackluster. However, Wilson threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns while adding 34 yards on the ground. Was this a sign of things to come or an aberration?

RB Jourdan Brooks, Rutgers
The Scarlet Knight backfield is a little messy to say the least. Starter Kordell Young has missed back-to-back games with a knee injury and his replacement - Mason Robinson - didn’t notch a carry against Navy. Brooks gashed the Midshipmen for 134 yards and two touchdowns while averaging an impressive 6.2 yards per carry. Keep an eye on Brooks, but be aware of Young and Robinson.

RB Glen Coffee, Alabama
Freshman Mark Ingram is clearly the future of the Crimson Tide backfield, but Coffee is quietly off to a good start this season. In Saturday’s victory over Alabama, Coffee rushed 10 times for 162 yards and two touchdowns. Coffee has 404 yards on the season and fantasy owners will want to watch closely how the battle for carries plays out with Ingram.

RB Omar Conteh, Northwestern
Current starter Tyrell Sutton suffered a leg injury against Ohio and his status for next week’s game against Iowa is uncertain. If Sutton is out an extended length of time, Conteh is a solid stopgap option.

RB Darren Evans, Virginia Tech
Is Evans inching closer to getting the bulk of the carries?

RB Eric Kettani, Navy
Teammate Shun White stole the show in the opener against Towson, but Kettani has been steady in two out of his last three performances. The senior rushed for 92 yards against Ball State and added 133 against Rutgers. He’s not a must start every week but one to add if you need depth.

WR Michael Floyd, Notre Dame
Floyd was considered one of the top recruits at receiver and has been impressive in three contests for the Irish. In a 23-7 loss to Michigan State, the freshman caught seven passes for 86 yards and a touchdown. The Notre Dame offense still has some work to do, but Floyd could be the go-to guy for Jimmy Clausen at the end of the year.

WR Jeff Fuller, Texas A&M
Another week, another touchdown for this freshman. He’s a very solid add in keeper leagues and one to keep in mind if you need a receiver for depth.

WR Gerald Jones, Tennessee
It’s pretty clear Jones is the most talented receiving option in the Tennessee receiving corps and he adds a little value on rushing yards as well. If the Volunteers can get their passing game going, Jones could be a dangerous deep threat.

WR Keith Smith/Desmond Tardy, Purdue
One of these two players will emerge as the second receiving option in the Purdue offense. Monitor their progress closely.

WR Kendall Wright, Baylor
A freshman to freshman connection is building in Waco. Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin continues to improve his passing and this freshman receiver is having a solid start to the year. Wright caught six passes for 114 yards and a touchdown against Connecticut and has 15 receptions for 185 yards and a touchdown on the year. His value is especially high in keeper leagues.

TE Justin Akers, Baylor
Akers is coming off a two touchdown performance against Connecticut and has eight receptions for 188 yards on the season. With Robert Griffin only getting better at quarterback, Akers is one to watch.

TE John Allen, Toledo
Was Allen’s performance against Fresno State a sign of things to come? In Saturday’s loss to Fresno State, Allen grabbed eight receptions for 93 yards and two touchdowns. He’s someone to monitor over the next couple of weeks.
