The Broncos have a chance to make some major noise in Eugene this weekend. Redshirt freshman quarterback Kellen Moore has completed three out of every four passes this season and has yet to turn the ball over. Facing one of the nation's top secondaries, Moore will need production from Ian Johnson and the running game. The Bronco defense has also played very well thus far in '08. They will have to be good because the Ducks lead the Pac-10 in rushing, total offense and scoring.
The Ducks have quarterback issues of their own. Nate Costa and Justin Roper are both gone due to injury, leaving a transfer (Jeremiah Masoli) and a true freshman (Chris Harper) to lead this football team. Harper is a dynamic threat on the ground while Masoli is the better passer. The Ducks have just a few more play-makers on all sides of the ball, plus, Boise State is 0-13 on the road against BCS-conference opponents.
Bronco To Watch: Kellen Moore, QB
Duck To Watch: Chris Harper, QB
Line: Oregon (-10)
Arizona (2-1) @ UCLA (1-1), 3:00 pm (FSN)
The Wildcats – like much of the Pac-10 last week – got upset by the Mountain West when New Mexico pulled off the 36-28 upset in Albuquerque. It was a perfect storm, though, in that the Lobos almost got the upset the week earlier but just missed. They were hungry. This Wildcat team has scored 139 points in three games and this one will be no exception.
The Bruins looked as bad last week against BYU as they did good against Tennessee. This team has managed only 38 yards rushing on 47 carries. That is 0.8 yards per carry. That is pathetic. Kevin Craft isn’t much better at quarterback as his touchdown to interception ratio is 1:5. Without any semblance of offense, the Bruins still have a chance to start Pac-10 play 1-0 and 2-1 on the season.
Wildcat To Watch: Nic Grigsby, RB
Bruin To Watch: Rahim Moore, S
Line: Arizona (-2.5)
Alabama (3-0) @ Arkansas (2-0), 12:30 pm (Gameplan)
The Crimson Tide is leading the nation in rushing defense. And running the football is certainly something to expect in this game - from both sides. The key for the Tide will be the play of John Parker Wilson. He has taken care of the football thus far and will need to continue his safe play. The running backs have been solid and the o-line is the SEC's best. However, Bama is 2-4 in its last six trips to Fayetteville.
The Hogs might be the worst 2-0 team in SEC history. Two fourth quarter rallies were needed to beat Western Illinois and UL-Monroe at home. Casey Dick has back-to-back 300+ yard games and is second on the Hogs all-time touchdown passes list. Bobby-P will figure out a way to score points. Arkansas is third in the nation with 15 true freshman played (Florida St-22, Miami-21). Keep an eye on tight end D.J. Williams.
Tider to Watch: Mark Ingram, RB
Hog to Watch: Joe Adams, RB/WR
Line: Alabama (-10)
Vanderbilt (3-0) @ Ole Miss (2-1), 7:00 pm (Local)
The Dores are looking for only their second 4-0 start since 1984. An awesome secondary and solid rushing attack should allow Vanderbilt to keep it close. However, if quarterback Chris Nickson can take advantage of the 77th ranked pass defense the Rebels are sporting, the Dores have a great shot at the victory.
The Rebels have won 12 of the last 15 against Vandy but VU claims two of the last three. Both teams are looking for bowl eligibility so this game has been circled by both as a must win. The development of quarterback Jevan Snead has been fun to watch. If he can make plays against the very solid Vandy secondary, the Dores may be in for a long day.
Commodore to Watch: Jared Hawkins, RB
Rebel to Watch: Dexter McCluster, WR
Line: Ole Miss (-7)
A few others to keep an eye on:
Ball State (3-0) @ Indiana (2-0), 7:00 pm (Big Ten Network)
This is a very interesting, very high scoring intrastate match-up.
Rutgers (0-2) @ Navy (1-2), 3:30 pm (CBS, CSTV)
The Knights have to get up off the 0-2 mat.
Central Michigan (2-1) @ Purdue (1-1), 12:00 pm (Big Ten Network)
This is the third match-up in roughly one year for these two (Purdue 2-0).
Mississippi State (1-2) @ Georgia Tech (2-1), 12:00 pm (Gameplan)
This game may be over in less than two hours.
