NCAA Fantasy RB Rankings - Week 1

Just as we indicated in our preseason rankings, the top of the running back class wasn’t heavy, but filled with plenty of depth. Thanks to several non-conference match-ups in week one, there are several solid plays inside of the top 20. Southern Mississippi’s Damion Fletcher, Ohio State’s Chris Wells and Boise State’s Ian Johnson are all solid options and should rush for well over 100 yards. Georgia’s Knowshon Moreno or Pitt’s LeSean McCoy round out the top five and both are good picks to get over 100 yards and two touchdowns.

Nebraska’s Marlon Lucky is a tough player to predict in week one. The Cornhuskers seem to be leaning with a backfield by committee approach, but Lucky is the most proven option on the team. The backfield by committee approach could hurt players like South Florida’s Mike Ford, Clemson’s James Davis and Oregon’s Jeremiah Johnson. If you have better options, you will want to avoid the committee backs in week one.

Two names to watch in week one – Colorado’s Darrell Scott and Michigan State’s Javon Ringer. Ringer will be going against a California defense that returns a solid linebacking corps and it’s not an easy match-up to predict. Ringer should get to 100 yards, but it’s a match-up to be concerned about. Scott won’t get the start against rival Colorado State, but the freshman should see plenty of time.

Tune into the College Fantasy Redzone podcast on Wednesday for more sleepers, busts and the latest news and notes from the running back spot.
