Around the Big 12

Baylor

New coach Art Briles is known for his dynamic offenses and is out to improve the Bears’ rushing attack this season.

Sticking with the ground game, junior college recruit Jeremy Sanders has made the switch from quarterback to running back.

The quarterback position is still a question mark and the Bears will likely keep it secret until the first snap of the season.

Colorado

Highly touted freshman running back Darrell Scott suffered a thumb injury in practice, but won’t miss anytime. Scott should be one of the top freshmen and a top 50 fantasy running back at the end of the year.

Sophomore Demetrius Sumler is slated to start at running back in the season opener against Colorado State. However, Scott will get into the game very early.

Head coach Dan Hawkins has been working on a little team unity.

Iowa State

Kansas State and Iowa State have agreed to move their 2009 and 2010 games to Arrowhead Stadium.

Head coach Gene Chizik likes the potential of his receivers.

Although the receivers have potential, there is still a question mark at quarterback.

Remember the name: Alexander Robinson. The Cyclone running back could have a breakout season and become a nice waiver wire pickup for fantasy owners.

Kansas

Coach Mark Mangino has picked his captains for 2008.

Quarterback Todd Reesing sure knows how to move on the football field, but apparently he’s got a few moves on the dance floor.

And he’s looking forward to the match-up against Texas.

Junior college transfer Jocques Crawford has been taking the lead for carries at the running back spot.

Kansas State

Quarterback Josh Freeman thinks he is the best quarterback in the Big 12. The junior loses Jordy Nelson, but should continue to show improvement in his third season as the starter.

Missouri

The Tigers have wrapped up their final scrimmage of fall camp.

Running back Derrick Washington is ready to shine. This Tiger back is one of the top sleepers in the Big 12 this season.

Receiver Danario Alexander continues to recover from knee surgery, but is back on the football field.

Nebraska

New coach Bo Pelini is working hard to improve the defense.

The Big 12 is the conference of quarterbacks this season, but the Cornhuskers’ Joe Ganz thinks he deserves a spot at the top.

Although running back Marlon Lucky is one of the top returning players in the Big 12, the Huskers won’t be afraid to get a couple of other backs in the mix.

Oklahoma

If quarterback Sam Bradford is injured, backup Joey Halzle is ready to play.

Running back DeMarco Murray is back at practice and is showing no signs of a setback from the dislocated kneecap that ended his 2007 season.

Murray the next Adrian Peterson?

Oklahoma State

Coach Mike Gundy is watching his defense for significant improvement this year.

Speaking of defense, safety Quinton Moore could be one player who helps that turnaround this season.

Running back Kendall Hunter is out to prove he is a capable replacement for Dantrell Savage.

Texas

The Longhorns continue to search for their starter at running back. Vondrell McGee appears to have a slight edge, but his fantasy value appears to be relegated as a backup for now.

There’s no question Colt McCoy is the starter, but backup John Chiles will see some snaps this year.

Texas A&M

Quarterback Stephen McGee held off a challenge from Jerrod Johnson to win the starting spot.

Running back Mike Goodson is having a strong offseason and should be considered a top 35 fantasy running back going into the season.

Texas Tech

Receiver Michael Crabtree could be featured more on kickoffs this season.

After spending last season in Mike Leach’s doghouse, Shannon Woods could emerge as the starting running back. Whoever wins the job is worth a gamble as a late-round fantasy option.
