2007 Recruiting class No. 3: USC

Quality not quantity was the theme for the 2007 USC recruiting class and the Trojans made the best of the 18 available scholarships.

USC upgraded the RB position with three special backs. Joe McKnight headlines the group with Marc Tyler and Broderick Green drawing strong comparisong to their '03 group of Reggie Bush and Lendale White. The Men of Troy also added much needed depth in their front seven. Everson Griffen and Chris Galippo head up a star studded class of DL and LBs.

With a solid team returning, USC has brought in players that can play immediately and help them retain their elite status in college football.

Impact Player: Joe McKnight, RB, River Ridge, La.

As soon as he steps off the plane at LAX, Joe McKnight will have a chance to compete for the starting RB position. He has a blend of speed, size, quickness, vision and football IQ that is off the charts. McKnight can line up in the I-formation and get downhill or line up in spread and cause problems in space. He has excellent hands out of the backfield and will cause match up problems for defenses when he is in the slot. McKnight will play early and often at USC.

Sleeper : Malcolm Smith, ATH, Woodland Hills, Calif.

Its hard work to choose a sleeper in a class with this much talent. Malcolm was the pick because he does not have a position. Unlike his brother Steve (Carolina Panthers) he was blessed with great size. He is athletic enough to play any skill position on the field. Wherever Malcolm winds up playing he will be electrifying.
