2007 Recruiting class No. 10: Georgia
The main priority for Mark Richt and the Georgia Bulldogs in this recruiting class was to find beef along the offensive front after their depth chart was severely thinned due to graduation loss and injuries. They did just that by inking eight OL’s, including two from the Junior College ranks, an area Georgia really hasn’t focused on since Richt arrived in Athens.
The Dawgs also shored up some depth problems at DL by inking four players including highly touted JUCO transfers Jarius Wynn and Corvey Irvin.
As always, Georgia’s primary focus is on their fertile home state recruiting grounds and that was no different this season as 18 of their 23 signees hail from the Peach State. They did leave the state for a few select blue chippers and managed to haul in two of the top three players in Missouri with Elite 11 QB Logan Gray and his teammate Aron White who is widely considered one of the top three TE’s in the nation.
Impact Player: Caleb King, RB, Norcross, GA
Caleb King’s name is one that has been thrown around for close to four years in Georgia recruiting circles. In a state that puts out as much RB talent as the Peach State does, King is thought by some to be the best prospect at the position in some time. The Dawgs won a heavy recruiting battle with Auburn for his services and they’re getting a silky smooth runner with incredible vision and ability to change direction. King is as fast as any back in the country and will give the Dawgs a big play option any time he’s in the lineup.
Sleeper: Clint Boling, OL, Alpharetta, GA
An offensive tackle prospect with great potential, Clint Boling — at 6'5'', 270 pounds — is as athletic as any offensive lineman you will find. New Georgia O-line coach Stacey Searles arrived in the off-season from LSU and will implement a zone blocking scheme that should fit perfect with Boling’s abilities. Clint played TE as well as DE in high school before moving to OL his senior season, and has tremendous feet and work ethic. After watching him at their summer camp in Athens, the Bulldogs offered him on the spot and the lifelong Georgia fan jumped at the chance to join his home state program. Clint enrolled at UGA early back in December, which will give him even more of a leg up on the competition come fall.
