Athlon SportsCollege Fantasy Football
For owners playing college fantasy football for the first time, you may notice a little bit of a different flavor in the top 200. Generally, most NFL fantasy leagues tend to have running backs taken among the top picks, but college fantasy leagues lean more towards the passers – especially at the top. The elite level passers in college fantasy are more valuable in the standard two-quarterback league setup. If you are in a one-quarterback league, expect your top 200 to resemble something closer to the NFL, with running backs and wide receivers getting a little more value.

This top 200 is geared towards a standard league setup – 2 QB, 3 RB, 3 WR, 1 Flex, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF and eight bench spots.

Some strategy tips to consider –

Although you don’t want to overvalue any position, tight end is one spot to consider taking early. Having a dependable week-to-week player such as Oklahoma’s Jermaine Gresham or BYU’s Dennis Pitta is a big difference for any lineup. Although Texas A&M’s Jamie McCoy and Oregon’s Ed Dickson are solid players, neither have the consistency of Gresham or Pitta.

Pay attention to bye weeks. Most teams have only one this year, but teams playing on December 5th will have two. Most college fantasy seasons will end on November 21st or 28th this year, but you don’t want to draft three running backs with a bye in one of the playoff rounds.

Running backs are wide open. Seven rushers got consideration for the top spot, but Oregon’s LeGarrette Blount gets the nod. If you aren’t sold Blount is the top overall back, don’t hesitate to jump on Tulane’s Andre Anderson, Oregon State’s Jacquizz Rodgers or one of the other top rushers. There’s some quality depth at running back, but no clear-cut No. 1 option.

Load up on backup quarterbacks. Although you want to get two good starters, be sure to grab quality backups, especially ones that have favorable matchups on the starter's bye weeks. Having a solid QB3 or QB4 is crucial in case one of your top two passers underachieves or is injured.

Be sure to keep in mind all rankings will change as needed throughout the offseason and a major update will be posted before August.
