Terrelle Pryor, QB, Ohio State (7/9, 52 yds, 11 car, 40 yds)
The big freshman was maybe the only bright spot for the Buckeyes on Saturday night. OSU fans can expect to see much more of the duel-threat quarterback in coming weeks. Pryor proved that he can play with anyone as he ran around and over some of the best defenders in the country.
Chris Harper, QB, Oregon (4/6, 40 yds, TD, 20 carries, 102 yds, 2 TD)
With the injuries to Nate Costa and now Justin Roper, Harper looks to be in-line to grab the starting job. His physical style of play and tremendous athletic ability has endeared himself to the Ducks coaches. His ability to throw will have to improve but his 6’3” 230-pound frame is incredibly athletic. Watch out for Houston, Texas native Darron Thomas as well.
If you have not picked them up yet, do it now:
Ryan Broyles, WR, Okalahoma (3 rec, 85 yds, 2 TD)
Quiz Rodgers, RB, Oregon State (110 yds, 2 TD, 3 rec, 13 yds)
Robert Griffin, QB, Baylor (129 yds, TD, 217 rush yds, 2 TD)
Austin Davis, QB, Southern Miss (219 yds, 2 TD, 20 rush yds)
Stephfon Green, RB, Penn State (52 yds, TD)
A.J. Green, WR, Georgia (3 rec, 61 yds)
Athlon’s top class performs well:
Julio Jones, WR, Alabama (5 rec, 66 yds, TD)
The expectations for Jones were almost too high, even for someone as gifted as him. However, he has reached the end zone in two of his first three games in college. Pick him up now!
Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama (51 yds, 2 TD)
The Michigan native has looked very impressive in early season actions thus far. His hard-nosed north-south attitude is wonderful to watch and behind the great o-line Bama, Ingram will only continue to improve.
And it’s only a matter of time before B.J. Scott makes a big play. The defense has already felt the impact of the likes of Don’ta Hightower and Mark Barron.
Week 3 Breakouts:
Phillip Payne, WR, UNLV (5 rec, 31 yds, 2 TD)
With :18 seconds left in the game, Payne went up and made a spectacular one-handed touchdown reception to tie the game. It was his second touchdown of the game. He is still the No. 2, though, as Ryan Wolfe is still the top Rebel target.
Deleon Eskridge, RB, Minnesota (114 yds, 3 TD)
In the absence of Duane Bennett, Eskridge played great. Keep expectations in check, however, as his breakout performance came against Montana State.
Sam McGuffie, RB, Michigan (131 yds, 4 rec, 47 yds, TD)
Six turnovers is not exactly a solid performance but Wolverine fans finally saw what McGuffie can do. He finally carried the bulk and carried it well (5.2 ypc). He is also going to be a threat in the passing game.
Others:
Taiwain Easterling, WR, Florida State (5 rec, 53 yds)
Blake Ayles, TE, USC (1 rec, 1 yd, TD)
