CFB Fantasy - Top 75 QBs
In our updated rankings, the top spot is still owned by Texas Tech’s Graham Harrell. In Harrell’s third season in Lubbock, he should have another terrific fantasy year. Central Michigan’s Dan LeFevour passed Florida’s Tim Tebow for the second spot in our rankings. Moving Tebow to the third position is no knock on his ability, but with so many weapons around him – Percy Harvin, Chris Rainey, Emmanuel Moody - equaling his touchdown mark seems out of reach. Rounding out the top five are Missouri’s Chase Daniel and West Virginia’s Pat White.
One of the biggest movers in our updated rankings is Washington’s Jake Locker. Although Locker loses key receivers, the sophomore signal-caller should push 1,000 yards on the ground and should be a better overall player in his second season as the starter.
Tulsa’s David Johnson and Houston’s Case Keenum were the most difficult quarterbacks to peg in our updated rankings. Johnson takes over for Paul Smith - who was the top fantasy quarterback in some scoring systems - but is largely unproven. The senior has a lot of potential to go forward, but he’s also one of the biggest risks on draft day. Keenum has been named the starter, but could once again split time with Blake Joseph.
SMU's Justin Willis was previously a top 20 fantasy quarterback option heading into the season, but will open at No. 3 on the depth chart. Don't rule out Willis from eventually gaining the starting job, which is why he remains in the top 75 of our fantasy quarterbacks. Backup Bo Levi Mitchell checks in at No. 74, but should be considered a one of 2008's top sleepers this season.
Sleepers? Check out Washington State’s Gary Rogers. New Cougar head coach Paul Wulff will use a no-huddle, spread attack that should have no trouble putting up the points in Pullman. Memphis’ Arkelon Hall has plenty of targets around him and once was a highly-regarded recruit for Washington State. If Hall proves to be as good as advertised, he will easily outperform his ranking.
The incoming freshman class isn’t likely to have much of a fantasy impact, but Baylor’s Robert Griffin is one to watch. Griffin could become a four-year starter for head coach Art Briles, similar to Houston’s Kevin Kolb. North Texas’ Riley Dodge doesn’t crack the rankings, but he could eventually see significant playing time. Giovanni Vizza is scheduled to begin the year as the starter, but don't count out the freshman from making a charge at some point.
