Running backs are always one of the key cogs in any fantasy lineup. Although the 2008 fantasy running back class may not be top-heavy, there are certainly plenty of quality options to fill a fantasy roster. Ohio State’s Chris Wells is one of the top contenders for the Heisman and should be the top fantasy back in 2008. The junior rushed for 1,609 yards and 15 touchdowns last year and with one of the best offensive lines in the country blocking for him in 2008, expect another huge year from Wells. Wells will be the one of the top ten fantasy players off the board in upcoming drafts.

If you miss out on Wells, don’t hit the panic button. There are several players who will make solid number one fantasy backs for a roster, including Boise State’s Ian Johnson. The senior running back could reach 20 touchdowns in 2008. Southern Mississippi’s Damion Fletcher is one of the country’s most underrated players and new head coach Larry Fedora will continue to feed him the rock.

With the depth at this position, owners should be able to find starting options in the middle rounds. UL Lafayette’s Tyrell Fenroy was injured for parts of 2007 and if the senior back can stay healthy, he has potential to be a top 25 fantasy running back. Additionally, owners looking for a sleeper should take a look at Oregon State redshirt freshman Ryan McCants. The Beavers have a solid offensive line returning, plus it’s hard to ignore their recent history of running backs – Ken Simonton, Steven Jackson and Yvenson Bernard.

You might want to bump up Keiland williams a couple dozen spots and add his two fellow running mates right next to him.....

What no link for Tyrell Hayden?? Oh, wait, you have to be a FBS running back to get a link, right?
