College Football's Top 15 Tight Ends for 2012

Washington's Austin Seferian-Jenkins is in for a big sophomore season.

The tight end position has been lacking in recent years, but there's a good crop of players ready to emerge in 2012. Notre Dame's Tyler Eifert ranks as Athlon's No. 1 tight end for this season, while Washington's Austin Seferian-Jenkins will only get better after a solid freshman campaign in 2011. Ohio State's Jake Stoneburner and Iowa's C.J. Fiedorowicz are two players who should easily surpass last year's totals, while non-BCS standouts Jack Doyle, Ryan Otten and Gavin Escobar should not be overlooked.

Pac-12 Player Rankings: The Top 50 Players for 2012

De'Anthony Thomas ranks as one of the top players in the Pac-12 for 2012.

The Pac-12 is one of the nation's top conferences for offense, so it should be no surprise that six of the top 10 players in Athlon's top 50 for 2012 check in on that side of the ball. USC's Matt Barkley is the frontrunner to win the Heisman, while receivers Robert Woods, Keenan Allen, Marqise Lee and Marquess Wilson are all All-American candidates. While the defense doesn't have as many players in the top 10, Utah's Star Lotulelei and USC's T.J. McDonald rank among the top six players.

Pac-12 Coaches Talk Anonymously About Conference Foes

What do opposing coaches think of Lane Kiffin's team at USC?

It's not easy getting college football coaches to honestly comment on another coach, player or team. In order to get an accurate assessment of teams heading into 2012, Athlon asked coaches in the Pac-12 to talk anonymously about their opponents.

Pac-12 Football: Leach, Rodriguez and Graham Add Spice and Intrigue

Arizona hit a home run with its hire of Rich Rodriguez.

Don’t expect Monte Kiffin to sleep very much from about Oct. 21-Nov. 10. The USC defensive coordinator doesn’t get a lot of rest during the season to begin with, but the opponents the Trojans will face during that specific three-game stretch could lead to some particularly long nights.
