The Vincent Jackson Saga Continues

Somebody really needs to blink in the proverbial staring contest currently taking place between Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith and wide receiver Vincent Jackson. If you ask me, Smith needs to get off his high-and-mighty horse and pay the man, or at least allow him to negotiate with other teams.
In the best-case scenario for the Chargers, they re-sign the Pro Bowl receiver to a long-term contract and he helps them win two or three championships throughout the rest of his tenure with the Chargers. However, the absolute worst-case scenario for Smith and the Chargers would be to neither offer the disgruntled wideout a long-term deal nor allow him to negotiate a trade with other teams while he sits on his sofa for the entire 2010 season, only to let him walk away in the spring of 2011.
Look, I’m not suggesting that Jackson alone will be the catalyst to a Super Bowl championship for the Chargers or any other team. What I am saying, however, is that there are several teams that would love to have a receiver of Jackson’s caliber, and  their chances of bringing home a Lombardi Trophy drastically increase with such a talent.
I will be shocked if we don’t see Jackson on the field at some point in 2010, and I don't think it will be for the Chargers. Once Smith realizes that Jackson's threat of holding out for the entire season actually holds weight, he'll entertain offers from teams looking to make a playoff push at the trade deadline.
