Bobby Cox Farewell
By: Charlie Miller | 10/12/10, 10:38 AM EDT
The salute to Bobby Cox last night was pretty special. Obviously the veteran manager would have loved to go out with another nine wins to his credit, but last night was all it could have been after a loss in an elimination game. Prior to Cox stepping into the dugout during the 1990 season, the Braves were coming off 54-win and 63-win seasons, and were 25-40 before Cox took over. They were coming off three straight last-place finishes and had just three winning seasons in 16 years. The Cox Effect? The Braves played in five of the next eight World Series and reached the postseason 14 straight times. A certain Hall of Famer.
