Purdue's Hummel Out

The Purdue Boilermakers, one of Athlon Sports 2010-2011 predicted Final Four teams, took a major shot to the jugular this weekend. For the second time in two years, do-everything forward, wing Robbie Hummel has torn his ACL and will miss the entire regular season.

The 6-foot-8, 225 pound wing started 27 games last season, averaging 15.7 ppg, 6.9 rpg and 2.1 apg while shooting lights out percentages of 46% from the floor and 90% from the stripe. He was missed when it counted most last year — in the tournament after tearing up his knee last spring. He had recently been cleared to play.

This is a huge blow to the Big Ten title hopes for a team that is still very well coached and very talented (see JuJuan Johnson and E'twan Moore). But they are no longer a Final Four pick in my mind. Kansas State, Nova, Ohio State, Pitt, Cuse, Zaga among many others have one less man to worry about on their way to Houston in March.
